   What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a very old aid to healing which has been used for thousands of years and the benefits are documented in the ancient Egyptian, Greek and Persian cultures.

Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation, where the client focuses on a single idea or concept.

This safe and natural altered state of consciousness happens to all of us, everyday; when we are engrossed deeply in a book or movie, or when we daydream. It's very similar to that 'miles away' feeling you probably find yourself in from time to time when you let your mind wander.

As the body is released from conscious control during the relaxed state of hypnosis, breathing becomes slower and deeper, the pulse rate drops and the metabolic rate falls. Within this relaxed state, most people’s suggestibility is increased, allowing beneficial ideas and suggestions to be accepted at a deep level.  Hypnosis itself, doesn't directly deal with issues such as smoking, weight loss, phobias or anxiety,  it is simply a tool used by a skilled therapist to bring about beneficial change.

Hypnosis is a  two-way process and  is only  possible if there is complete consent  and cooperation between a hypnotherapist and the client. It is important to understand that only suggestions that fit with the client’s morals and ethics will be accepted and acted upon by the unconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy is not entertainment – it is intended to help you deal with your problems and should not be confused with any kind of stage show which is there to provide entertainment for the people watching.  A hypnotherapist should never ask you to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, ridiculous or is against your moral ethical or religious values.
